Songs of Children and of Fairy Lands - Kateryna Kasper and Hilko Dumno

A Romantic Song Recital
recorded in the Villa Wahnfried, Bayreuth/Germany
performed upon the Steinway (1876) of Richard Wagner

This album is a journey to bygone and dreamt of lands. A journey back to childhood, to the land of elves and nymphs, to the Romantic era.
A journey back? – The modern way of evaluating, optimizing and automatizing everything provokes, I believe, in many people a quiet “Romantic” longing for the secrets hiding behind everyday things, for the irrational, the timeless, for what makes us human. Childhood is such a precious time in which rules of imagination and play reign supreme. These same rules govern the musings of fairy tales and also of music. Romanticism is more than an era: it is also an attitude towards life and, as such, is timeless. Perhaps it is more topical today than ever.
Kateryna Kasper

Kateryna Kasper, Soprano
Kateryna Kasper is a stylistically versatile artist of great authenticity, equally at home on both opera and concert stages. As a member of the Frankfurt Opera Ensemble since 2012 (initially in the Opera Studio programme) she has sung roles from all periods such as Anima (Cavalieri), Pamina and Susanna (Mozart), Antonida (Glinka), Sophie (Strauss), and Der Kleine (Eötvös, World Premiere). Guest engagements have taken her to the Los Angeles Opera and festivals in Edinburgh, Bregenz, Savonlinna and Bergen. As a concert singer, Kateryna Kasper has performed in the Philharmonie de Paris, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall Moscow, the Musashino Civic Cultural Hall Tokyo and with the London and Turku Philharmonic Orchestras. She has worked with conductors such as Nathalie Stutzmann, Michael Schneider, Federico Maria Sardelli, Sebastian Weigle, Ivor Bolton, Constantinos Carydis and Raphaël Pichon. In addition to Hilko Dumno, her chamber music partners include the pianist Dmitry Ablogin and the Trio Vivente.

Hilko Dumno, Piano
As a sensitive song pianist, Hilko Dumno enjoys long lasting collaboration with singers such as Hedwig Fassbender, Julia Kleiter, Tanja Ariane Baumgartner, Christoph Pregardien, Georg Poplutz, Johannes Martin Kränzle and Hans Christoph Begemann, which is reflected in an extensive discography. An artistic co-director of two recital series at the Opera and the Goethehaus Frankfurt, Hilko Dumno is also a much sought-after guest at renowned festivals such as the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg and Barcelona, the Styriarte Graz, the Menuhin-Festival Gstaad, the Lucerne Festival and the Schwetzinger Festspiele, as well as at the opera houses in Frankfurt, Cologne and Brussels.
