Both Kalle Kalima and Conny Bauer are looking for (and finding) new sound horizons with this project, according to the motto: "Let the sounds run free!" They met for the first time at Nils Wogram's birthday concert in Berlin in 2022 and played together in the jam session there. They decided to meet again and began to develop joint compositions. The music they have developed for this album is collective, unique and defies musical categories. The album was recorded in Berlin in 2023, mastered 2025, and will be released in early summer 2025.

"13 Kuukautta" means "13 months" in Finnish. It is a musical landscape that escapes from everyday structures and aims to create its own time-space continuum.


Conny Bauer, the imposing trombonist

Konrad "Conny" Bauer, master of the trombone, will sound his unmistakable trombone tone on this exclusive new album in a duo with the guitar virtuoso Kalle Kalima.
Bauer was born in Halle an der Saale (former East Germany) on July 4, 1943 and has been one of the most successful jazz musicians in the GDR since the 1970s. A career as an internationally renowned musician was not long in coming. Conny Bauer was able to make a name for herself here in particular as a talent for improvisation.
In the trombonist's pitches, entire soundscapes can be found, ranging from the deep valleys of the drone to the peaks of the overtone series. This sound painting is rounded off by mysteriously brilliant melodies. If you can't wait to see Conny Bauer live, you can sweeten your time with his solo albums until then. The willing listener can expect titles such as "Flüchtiges Glück", "Hummelsummen" or "Der gelbe Klang".
But in addition to his talent as a "solo entertainer", Conny Bauer is also an excellent team player. Initially active as a trombonist in the 'Modern Soul Band', Bauer dedicated himself completely to jazz with the group 'FEZ'. At the same time, Conny Bauer was a co-founder of the band 'Synopsis', which later achieved fame under the name 'Zentralquartett'. But that's not all: Together with his brother Johannes, Conny played in the band 'Doppelmoppel'; the band 'Bauer 4' even consisted entirely of the Bauer family. The brothers Conny, Johannes and Matthias as well as Conny's son Louis made music together.
Over the course of his long career, Bauer has collaborated with numerous well-known musicians, including Peter Kowald, Hamid Drake, William Parker and Gianluigi Trovesi. His current formation consists of his brother Matthias and drummer Dag Magnus Narvesen.


Kalle Kalima, the multifaceted guitarist

Kalle Kalima is one of the most interesting Finnish representatives of the European jazz scene. Born in Finland and living in Berlin, the 51-year-old fuses attributes of rock and improvised music, with humour never neglected. Together with Oliver Potratz and Oliver Steidle, Kalle Kalima forms his longest project to date 'Klima Kalima' (new album will be released in autumn '25 by TYXart), which won the New German Jazz Prize 2008. Kalima was nominated for the Echo Jazz 2016 and for the German Jazz Award 2022.
Kalima has performed with Jason Moran, Jim Black, Greg Cohen, Anthony Braxton, Teppo Hauta-Aho, Leo "Wadada" Smith, Marc Ducret, Jimi Tenor, Tony Allen, and Tomasz Stanko, among others.
